Abstract

This article analyzes the influence of Angolan culture on social cognition, investigating how the hybridity between tradition and modernity influences perception and community interactions. The Angolan context presents a complex ethnolinguistic and historical diversity, marked by colonial legacies and the civil war. However, a gap in the literature is observed, given the hegemony of Eurocentric psychological models that disregard local specificities. The research problem questions how Angolan cultural particularities redefine the processes of judgment and social categorization. The study analyzed this influence through four theoretical models, namely: Attribution Theory, Social Comparison Theory, Social Identity Theory, and Transculturality Theory. The justification lies in the urgency of decolonizing the psychological perspective to provide a foundation for more effective public policies. Thus, the research methodology consisted of a qualitative bibliographic study, analyzing 18 documents published between 1909 and 2026. The discussion highlights that Angolan cognition privileges collective interaction and social harmony over classical individualism. As results, it was identified that rites of passage, migrations, and ethnic stigmas are addressed through an identity hybridity that constantly negotiates between the ancestral and the global. The conclusion ratifies that classical social psychology is insufficient to understand local subjectivity, making it imperative to adopt "Epistemologies of the South" to promote social cohesion and the recognition of ethnic diversity in Angola.
